G2E prediction markets session added to main stage
The Global Gaming Expo (G2E) announced on Monday that it has added a bonus main stage session on the industry’s united front against prediction markets. The G2E prediction markets session is scheduled for 1 p.m. on September 29.
Bill Miller, president and CEO of the American Gaming Association (AGA), will host union, gaming, and congressional leaders who will explain why they are involved and how prediction markets are affecting the people they represent. Joining him on stage are Gwen Mills, president of Unite Here; Rodney Butler, chairman of the Mashantucket Pequot; and Nevada Rep. Steven Horsford. G2E is presented by the AGA and organized by RX.
The discussion will cover why unity matters, how the regulated industry can align legal, political, and public policy strategies, and what collective action may be needed to protect gaming, sovereignty, and regulatory authority. The session description says litigation is unfolding and regulators are debating jurisdiction while the industry looks for a coordinated response.
G2E has added a September 29 main stage session in which AGA chief Bill Miller will host union, tribal and congressional leaders on a coordinated response to prediction markets.
Miller said the panel is meant to show that collaboration reaches beyond the industry itself.
“Collaboration both across and beyond the industry is critically important in preserving and protecting the state- and tribal-regulated gaming market,” Miller said in a statement.
Mills said Unite Here’s members include casino housekeepers, bartenders, servers, cooks and dishwashers. She said they and responsible gaming employers have built a union standard with high wages, access to affordable health insurance and the ability to retire with dignity.
“Unite Here, the tribal gaming industry, and the commercial gaming industry are standing side-by-side in a campaign to end illegal prediction market gambling,” Mills said. “Prediction markets are threatening the livelihoods of casino workers throughout the country.”
Horsford, a Nevada congressman, framed the issue around his state’s regulatory record and its workforce.
“Prediction markets are gambling dressed up as innovation. They are exploiting our youth, threatening Nevada’s hospitality jobs, and gutting the integrity that keeps the gaming industry honest,” Horsford said.
He said his bipartisan Prediction Markets Are Gambling Act would stop federally regulated trading platforms from presenting sports betting and casino-style gambling as financial products.
The session joins a main stage lineup that G2E began announcing earlier this month. On Tuesday morning, Miller will give a keynote, followed by a CEO panel on the state of the industry moderated by CNBC’s Contessa Brewer and a conversation with Wayne Gretzky and BetMGM’s Adam Greenblatt. On Wednesday, Global Gaming Women will host activist Elizabeth Smart on resilience in the workplace.
G2E runs September 28 to October 1 at The Venetian Expo in Las Vegas. Its education lineup includes more than 100 sessions and more than 300 speakers.
