US States Post Mixed August Gambling Revenue Results

August brought a mixed set of monthly gambling revenue results across three US states, with Pennsylvania seeing an overall decline offset by iGaming growth, Virginia‘s land-based casinos posting a double-digit rise, and Tennessee‘s sports betting handle continuing to climb.
Virginia told a different story. The state’s five land-based casinos won total gaming revenue of $97.6 million in August, a 15% rise year-on-year, marking one of the stronger monthly performances among the states reporting this period.
Pennsylvania’s combined gambling revenue dropped 2% year-on-year in August, to $569.7 million, with iGaming the segment propping up an otherwise softer month for the state’s broader gambling sector.
Tennessee, meanwhile, continued its momentum in sports wagering. The state’s sports betting handle grew 10% year-on-year in August, reaching $414.5 million.
Taken together, the three states’ August figures point to a gambling market where growth is increasingly uneven across verticals and geographies — iGaming and Virginia’s land-based casinos posting gains even as other segments, including Pennsylvania’s overall total, came in softer than a year earlier.
